Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo has come out explaining why Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino are not aligned with President William Ruto’s broad-based government.
Speaking on Monday, November 17, 2025, the legislator revealed her understanding of the two leaders’ position on the broad-based government owing to the wave of opposition politics, which she says has dominated in the urban areas, especially Nairobi County.
“But what is the situation of the people whose voters are primarily in Nairobi? What is the position of Babu? What is the position of Sifuna? , Is Nairobi predominantly broad-based? Of course not, which is very normal with the urban politics anywhere in the world,” Millie said.
Millie went on to explain that Babu Owino and Edwin Sifuna are not aligned with the broad-based government because of the nature of Nairobi politics, adding that they are also protecting their interests politically.
“When people attack them and they say, Why don’t you follow this direction? In politics, people also look out for their own interests,” she added.

Millie Odhiambo remarks reflect recent remarks by Migori Senator Eddy Oketch who called out Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East Member of Parliament, suggesting that their political ambitions are driven more by personal interests than public service.
Speaking during a TV interview on Monday, September 8, 2025, Oketch accused the two leaders of being influenced by the “Sakaja effect,” implying that their actions are motivated by a desire to emulate Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s political trajectory.
“There is a lot of greed in the government. I think Kenya Kwanza has personal interests in surviving in politics. MP Babu Owino and Senator Edwin Sifuna seem to be suffering from the ‘Sakaja effect,’” he said.
On his part, the Migori Senator called out Babu Owino in what he described as an excuse for mischief to get out and find a way of vying without ODM ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Babu wants to vie for the governor of Nairobi, and he has said it a number of times that he doesn’t believe that ODM will give him a ticket to run on in 2027; therefore, this is his excuse for mischief to get out and find a way of vying without ODM,” he added.
