Mike Sonko condemns assault of female worker at fast food joint: "Huyo mzungu must be arrested"

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has strongly condemned a viral video showing a white man assaulting a female employee at Chicken Inn, Kilimani.

Sonko took to X to call for the immediate arrest of the man. “This is totally unacceptable. Huyu mzungu must be arrested with immediate effect,” wrote Sonko.

He added, “Look how he's assaulting his female Kenyan staff at Chicken Inn, Kilimani branch. Someone bring the lady who has been assaulted to my office lazima tumuinue huyu fala,”

The incident, captured on March 4, 2025, shows the white man approaching the counter where the female staff member was standing. Agitated, he tossed some cash over the counter before grabbing her by the collar, nearly lifting her off the ground.

Two other Kenyan employees quickly intervened, restraining the man and preventing further assault. The female worker then defended herself as a security officer stepped in to remove the man from the premises.

Moments later, the white man calmed down after speaking to two women. However, he returned to the counter and confronted the female employee again. A male colleague then joined her before the man eventually left.

The reason for the altercation remains unclear.

The video has sparked outrage online, with many Kenyans demanding action against the man.

"This is unacceptable! He must be arrested, and justice must be served for the waitress,” wrote one X user.

Another added, “No matter one’s status in society, anger must be controlled. Chicken Inn security also failed. Sonko, please ensure action is taken.”

Some, however, called for a fair hearing. “Both sides should be investigated. He might have had a legitimate concern but overreacted,” one user noted.

“It should be investigated and both parties given right of hearing -it could have been he had a legitimate concern and he overreacted like any other normal human being,” wrote another.

Authorities have yet to comment on the incident.
