Safari Rally driver Maxine Wahome's mother, Beverly Wahome, testified on Wednesday in the ongoing trial where she is charged with the murder of her former boyfriend and fellow rally driver, Asad Khan.
Maxine was arrested on December 12, 2022, at an apartment in Kilimani, Nairobi after allegedly assaulting and inflicting serious injuries on her boyfriend, Asad Khan, who later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
During her testimony, Beverly recounted how she received a distressing video call from her daughter, who pleaded for help during the night of the incident.
Wahome's mother, who was grilled by Prosecution Counsel Roselyne Tum, described how she witnessed the chaotic scene unfold in real-time, including seeing Khan bleeding, as her daughter urged her to call the police and come to her rescue.
"Maxine's mother told the court, during an examination in chief by Prosecution Counsel Ms. Roselyne Tum, that she was able to witness in real time what was going on where the daughter was, including Asad Khan bleeding," the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said in a statement on X.
The case's proceedings are scheduled to resume on January 20, 2025, with additional sessions planned for January 21, 22 and 23 as both sides prepare to present their arguments.
Previous witnesses have testified that Maxine and the deceased often had differences and would fight from time to time.
