Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua has urged Kenyans to voice solidarity against the contentious Finance Bill 2024.

Speaking at the party's headquarters in Nairobi on Thursday, Karua accused President Ruto's administration of exhibiting lame governance, terming it a "cruel and heartless regime" while citing the stringent proposals included in the Bill.

The political firebrand lectured the President William Ruto-led regime, blaming it for mismanaging public resources and even awarding unqualified individuals with crucial responsibilities that have further increased the plight of Kenyans.

She added the Budget set to be presented in the National Assembly is first-hand proof of how the state is willing to install punitive measures with less care on how Kenyans will be affected.

"Ruto's regime is filling and Kenyans are being burdened, instead of a budget to help people, it's much of making them suffer, budget making is about making right choices concerning citizens but not funding the executives," she said.

"You cannot appoint unqualified officers and then burden Kenyans." 

Karua further stated that the Bill should stand no chance for approval until goodwill to cushion Kenyans is shown.

She believes that the current administration is only making proposals for private gain and fattening their pockets.

"Their question is, will Ruto and the team listen to people concerning the budget, or will they continue with the punitive budget?" she posed.

"Sadly, this regime is busy making a budget for itself in violation of article 203 (a) and article 43 of the constitution of Kenya 2010. Budget making is about making the right choices that can lead to a much safer Kenya based on a true reference and respect for the people it is not about funding the executive."

Karua therefore made a clarion call to Kenyans to reject the Bill in unison, noting that Kenyans will continue to bear the brunt of ill-informed decisions by the state.

"We must reject the Finance Bill and every imposition by the Ruto regime to push Kenyans into destitute We wish to remind members of parliament that Kenyans are watching your every move to see how you respond to their cries," she noted.

"We know we are a great nation, with great people. There are millions of Kenyans whose united strength can easily put in check the few hundred individuals sitting at the helm of power and using that power to destroy our lives and country. Kenyans this is our home. and we must fight for her survival. Let us not relent."

This lies on the backdrop of a mounting uproar among Kenyans on the Bill which seeks to increase taxation avenues and run dry the pockets of most salaried Kenyans.

The proposed budget has upscaled to a projected Ksh.4 trillion up from Ksh.3.7 trillion in the 2023/24 fiscal year.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) Njuguna Ngung'u is set to present the budget in Parliament today, Thursday, June 13, for its reading ahead of a parliamentary debate.
