Kirinyaga Referral hospital conducts the first successful spinal surgery in Kenya

The Kerugoya County Referral Hospital has conducted the first successful spinal surgery in Kenya.

Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru announced the development and applauded the surgical team led by Dr Oluoch.

She wished the patient a speedy recovery and acknowledged that the results of the surgery mark a milestone that gives hope to patients.

"The first Spinal Surgery has been done at Kerugoya County Referral Hospital. We thank the surgical team led by Dr. Oluoch for this Medical Milestone that gives hope to our patients. I prayerfully wish the patient a speedy recovery," Waiguru wrote.

Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Susan Nakhumicha also commended the surgical team, saying the medical stride is a testament to devolution gains and the cordial working relationship between the National Government, the Ministry of Health and the county governments.

The CS further reiterated the Ministry's commitment to supporting counties with similar initiatives such as the National Equipment Support Program NESP to ensure health services, are conveniently available to all.

"Congratulations to the medical teams in Kirinyaga County and to H.E Governor @AnneWaiguru for successfully executing this complex Spinal Surgery.

"This medical stride is a testament to the gains of devolution and to the cordial working relationship between the National Government, the @MOH_Kenya and the County Governments @KenyaGovernors," she wrote.
