Kindiki affirms that the government is dedicated to tackling security challenges across borders

The government is committed to addressing security challenges at the borders to promote trade and peaceful coexistence between Kenya and neighboring countries.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure emphasized the significance of secure borders for the country's economic growth during the operationalization of Teso Central Sub-County in Busia. He stated that a secure border is crucial for the nation's economic development.

To alleviate congestion in border towns, reduce traffic accidents, and enhance trade with other East African Community Member States, Kindiki mentioned that the government will prioritize the expansion of the Eldoret-Bungoma-Malaba road.

The Interior CS emphasized the government's dedication to ensuring efficient border operations by deploying officers of high integrity and addressing corruption.

He assured that they would select competent individuals focused on promoting trade, investment, security, and good relations between Kenya and Uganda for border positions. Additionally, plans were announced to improve border infrastructure to facilitate smooth cross-border trade and movement for citizens of both countries.

Regarding the country's economic situation, CS Kindiki stressed the urgent need for collaboration between the national and devolved governments. He highlighted the importance of finding ways to improve the well-being of ordinary citizens, particularly the youth who are drawn to criminal activities due to unemployment.

Kindiki emphasized the government's active efforts to create job opportunities at the grassroots level and encouraged young people to explore alternative income-generating avenues. Addressing the security situation in Busia, the Interior CS issued a strong warning to criminal gangs and pledged action against those responsible.

Kindiki instructed the Busia County and Sub-Counties Security and Intelligence Committees to monitor, apprehend, and prosecute criminal gangs that are terrorizing citizens.

He also mentioned the government's plans to establish more administrative units to bring services closer to the people and urged National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) across the country to serve citizens with dedication and respect.

Notable attendees at the event included Busia Deputy Governor Arthur Odera, Teso North MP Oku Kaunya, Principal Administrative Secretary at the Executive Office of President Arthur Osiya, and various National and County government officials.
