The hearing of the murder case against former Pangani station police officer Ahmed Rashid kicked off on Thursday at the Kibera Law Courts as key witnesses took to the stand.
One of the witnesses, a grandfather of one of the deceased teenagers, recounted how he learnt of his grandson’s tragic death through television news.
He informed the court that upon visiting the mortuary, he saw his grandson's body bore upto seven gunshot wounds, some of which had resulted in recovery of lodged bullets, though he claimed the prosecution did not present that evidence in court.
However, during cross examination, he was pressed by defence counsel Danstan Omari to identify specific details in the footage, to which he declined, expressing reluctance to view it again.
The first witness expressed fear for his safety and was allowed to testify on camera before High Court Judge Diana Kavedza.
Rashid is accused of the murder of two teenagers, Jamal Mohammed and Mohammed Dhair Kheri in March 2017 at Amal Plaza in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
