The ongoing rains are set to continue in several parts of the country at the start of the week, before giving way to predominantly sunny and dry conditions, the Kenya Meteorological Department has announced.
According to the Kenya Meteorological Department, rainfall will persist in a few areas during the early part of the week, mainly affecting the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley itself, the Lake Victoria Basin, parts of north-western and north-eastern Kenya, the Coastal region, and the south-eastern lowlands.
The department warns that some of these regions may experience isolated thunderstorms accompanied by heavy downpours, which could lead to localised flooding, poor visibility, and disruption of transport and outdoor activities.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions.

However, the weatherman notes that conditions are expected to improve as the week progresses, with much of the country transitioning to sunny and dry weather for the remainder of the period.
In addition to rainfall, the department forecasts hot daytime conditions, with maximum temperatures exceeding 30°C in the Coastal region, north-eastern and north-western Kenya, as well as parts of the south-eastern lowlands, the Rift Valley, and Western Kenya.
At the same time, cold nights are expected in several high-altitude areas. Minimum temperatures below 10°C are likely in parts of the Central Highlands, the North and Central Rift Valley, Western Kenya, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has urged Kenyans to keep monitoring official weather updates and advisories to plan their activities safely during the festive-to-new-year transition period.
