The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of a section of Southern Bypass from Ole Sereni Interchange to Ngong Road Interchange.
In a notice dated December 23, the authority announced that the road will be closed between December 24 at 8pm to January 5, 2025 at midnight.
The closure will allow for the rehabilitation of the expansion joints of all the bridges along the section as well as reconstruction of concrete pavement of the Virtual Weighbridge.
For motorists accustomed to using the road, the notice announced that they will be redirected to Mombasa road, Ngong Road and Lang’ata Road.
“All traffic will be diverted through Mombasa Road (A8) Highway, Lang'ata Road and Ngong Road as an alternative route during this period,” he stated.
To facilitate the fast completion of the project, they have also been urged to familiarise themselves with the diversion routes and to exercise caution while driving around the work areas.
Police and traffic marshals will also be on-site to ensure a smooth transition.
Due to the closure, traffic in the city is expected to be affected especially since other roads across the city are facing the same.
In a similar notice a few days ago, the authority also announced the temporary closure of a section of Kiambu Road for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Ruiru-Tatu City-Kiambu (B115) Road.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) would like to inform the public that Ruiru-Tatu City-Kiambu (B115) Road will be temporarily closed at a section between Kirigiti Roundabout to St.Peter and Paul Catholic Church,” part of the notice read.
The closure will also affect travel plans during the holidays as it takes effect today, December 23 and will run through the holiday to Monday 6.
For motorists affected by the route closure, their vehicles will be diverted through the Kirigiti-Rui Stage Junction-Kiambu Town route during the period.
