A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier is currently cooling his heels at the Kitengela Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after being detained for the passing away of his lover.
The soldier, attached to the Kahawa Garrison Defence Forces Constabulary, had reportedly visited his girlfriend in a rented apartment in Kitengela over the weekend when tragedy struck.
According to a police report, the 24-year-old woman developed breathing difficulties during the encounter and shortly afterwards lost consciousness.
"Around 11pm, the deceased became unconscious and developed difficulty in breathing, where he (the soldier) raised an alarm and the caretaker responded," the report reads.
It was at this point that the military officer panicked and sought help from a neighbour to drive them to a health centre in Kitengela.
Unfortunately, the woman was said to have succumbed. It was said that she had passed on at the lodging long before she was brought into the hospital.
Preliminary investigations indicated there were no visible injuries on the body, but there was blood in her genitals.
Nurses at the facility then advised the two men, the soldier and the driver, to report the matter to the police, but the officer excused himself, purporting to seek help, but jumped over the gate of the hospital and ran.
When he got back to his camp, the soldier surrendered to the military police, claiming that he had run because he was afraid of the ramifications of his lover succumbing.

The military police then detained the soldier in a guard room before escorting him to the Kitengela DCI on Saturday afternoon, where he is currently being held.
Isinya Sub-County Police boss Patrick Manyasi confirmed the incident, stating that the authorities are awaiting the autopsy report before taking further steps.
"We will have to wait for the doctor's report for us to act. The postmortem will be done on Monday next week, and from there we will know the move to take," said the police boss.
The deceased's body is currently lying at the Shalom Community Hospital mortuary.
