Judgement on Edwin Chiloba case to be made on November 8, 2024

The defence in the killing of LGBTQ activist Edwin Kiprotich alias Chiloba has closed its case which saw the prime suspect in the killing put on spirited attempts to clear himself in the 2023 gruesome killing.

25-year-old Jacktone Odhiambo, a freelance photographer is accused of killing the final year bachelor's degree student in Apparel Fashion and Design at the University of Eldoret (UoE).

Odhiambo denied killing Chiloba between December 31, 2022 and January 3, 2023 at Noble Breeze Apartment in Chebisaas area in Uasin Gishu county.

Chiloba's decomposed body was discovered stashed in a metallic box on January 3, 2023 along the busy Kipkenyo-Kaptinga road in Kapseret Sub County, 10 kilometres away from Eldoret town.

During the one-year hearing of the murder case before the high court sitting in Eldoret, 22 key witnesses were presented by the prosecution among them government pathologist Johansen Oduor.

In his testimony before the judge, the principal chemist from the government chemist in Kisumu Polycarp Kweyu revealed that the male DNA profile generated from the bed cover matched seminal fluids that were extracted from Odhiambo.

According to Jane Waya, a Government Analyst from Kisumu who conducted a toxicological analysis on samples taken from the deceased’s body said that no chemical substances were detected.

Justice Nyakundi directed the prosecution and the victim’s lawyer to file and serve their submissions in two weeks.

Justice Nyakundi is set to issue a judgment on November 8, 2024.
