Jubilee Wrangles: Kanini Kega Faction Kicks Out Uhuru Kenyatta As Jubilee Party Leader

A faction of the Jubilee Party led by EALA Member of Parliament Kanini Kega has appointed Sabina Chege as acting party leader.

This came as the faction declared Uhuru Kenyatta's leadership of the party null and void ahead of a planned national delegates meeting to select office bearers.

The team held a meeting on Tuesday morning in their new offices in Lavington, Nairobi, and said Uhuru ceased to hold office in March 2023; six months after his retirement.

“In any political party for more than six months after ceasing to hold office as president, the former party leader ceased to hold office as a party leader of Jubilee in March 2023,” said Kega.

“Therefore any communication from him cannot bind the party and is of no legal consequence pending the convening of National Delegates Convention .The honourable Sabina Chege will be the acting party leader of Jubilee Party.”

This new development comes after rival Jubilee Party Secretary Generals Jeremiah Kioni and Kanini Kega engaged in a near fight on March 9, 2023.

The two leaders met at the people’s dialogue festival at the Museums of Kenya where disagreements arose over who should address the meeting on behalf of the party in the event organized by the Center for Multiparty Democracy.

Later, on April 26, the two factions again clashed over leadership, this time at their former party headquarters at Dik Dik Gardens in Kileleshwa.

The chaos, during which stones and other objects were hurled before police stepped in, saw the property’s owner order the party to leave the premises claiming that they had violated the lease terms.
