Joy as 57 babies born in Kerugoya hospital on Christmas day

It was joy and dance on Christmas day at the Kerugoya County Referral Hospital when at least 56 expectant mothers delivered babies under the care of the hospital staff, among them a set of twins.

Three other babies were delivered in facilities across Kirinyaga county.

Kirinyaga county health department workers said they had successful deliveries within the county, with Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru giving out Christmas gifts for the new mothers.

The gifts were handed over to them by the county health officials.

Rachel Nyaga, an officer from the renal department, said the number of babies born on this year's Christmas eve was higher compared to last year.

Grace Muthoni, one of the mothers who was blessed with a baby boy, shed tears of joy as she welcomed the newborn at the county health facility.

Virginia Wangari, officer in charge, said there was also another mother who delivered twins at the facility in the morning in one of the facilities which normally records very high numbers of deliveries in a day.
