Johnson Sakaja ranked among bottom 10 performing Governors: Infotrak Report

A survey conducted by Infotrak Research and Consulting firm has ranked Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja among the lower-performing county leaders.

The Countrytrak Performance Index 2024 report released on Tuesday, and which assessed Governors' performance across Kenya, placed Sakaja in the bottom ten, coming at 37 out of 47.

The Infotrak ranking comes as the latest in a series of reports that have dented Governor Sakaja’s public image in recent times.

This after Controller of Budget (CoB) Margaret Nyakang'o’s report released in December 2024 revealed that the Sakaja-led Nairobi County government was among 10 devolved units that spent zero shillings on development during a four-month period from July to October.

The Nairobi County boss however came out to dismiss that report saying his administration spent Ksh.844,184,929 on various development projects during the said period.

Sakaja highlighted that Nyakang’o's report overlooked a key issue: counties, including Nairobi, did not receive any exchequer releases from the National Treasury in the first two months of the fiscal year.

In the latest Infotrak report, Murang'a’s Irungu Kang'ata was ranked as the top Governor with the most impact in terms of devolution.

Kang'ata received a 68 per cent rating, followed by Trans Nzoia's George Natembeya who got 64 per cent, Homa Bay's Gladys Wanga (61 per cent), and Kisumu's Anyang' Nyong'o (59 per cent).

Mutula Kilonzo (Makueni) and Wesley Rotich (Elgeyo Marakwet) tied with a 57 per cent rating and rounded up the top six Governors.
