The registration of elderly persons aged 70 and above to the Inua Jamii programme kicked off on Friday across different parts of the country.
A high turnout was witnessed on the first day with hundreds of elderly persons turning up at designated administration offices.
In Ol-Jororok, Nyandarua County, calls were made to ensure beneficiaries receive the monies through their mobile phones saying as this will ease the burden and agony of travelling to their respective banks for withdrawals.
In Garissa County, Deputy County Commissioner Solomon Chesut urged the applicants to ensure they have the proper documentation before embarking on the exercise.
A similar exercise was underway in Nakuru, Kisii, Kirinyaga and Kajiado counties.
Currently, the Inua Jamii programme benefits over 1.2 million Kenyans, including 353,000 orphans and vulnerable children, 833,129 elderly citizens, and 47,000 persons with severe disabilities across the country.
