Kenya Airways (KQ) has officially handed over a decommissioned Boeing 737-700 aircraft to Mang'u High School following its donation to the institution in 2023.

In a statement on Sunday, January 12, the airline stated that the aircraft aims to inspire students pursuing aviation studies at the school.

"We are making history with the donation of a Boeing 737 to Mang'u High School, inspiring the next generation of aviators!" Kenya Airways stated.

The plane was donated by KQ.

Speaking during a ceremony held at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Mang’u Principal John Kuria expressed his gratitude to the national carrier.

Kuria disclosed that the delivery of the aircraft to the school marked the climax of his teaching career and that he will retire with his head held high.

"We are extremely happy to receive the gift from Kenya Airways, Boeing 737-700. It has been a journey. The journey started in 2021 and today I'm a happy man because as the CEO of the school, I wil deliver the aircraft to the school.

"As I retire from the teaching service, this marks the climax of my teaching career. I will go home head high, having steered the school to excellent performance and receiving the aircraft which is going to stir aviation studies at Mang'u High School. I'm thanking Kenya Airways because this aircraft is going to promote aviation studies and we are going to educate the young men for the Kenyan and global market in aviation industry," Kuria stated.

Kenya Airways Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer Hellen Mathuka stated the aircraft will serve as a learning resource to inspire future aviators.

"This aircraft, once soaring the skies, now begins a new chapter as a learning resource to inspire and equip future aviators, engineers, and innovators,” Mathuka remarked.

The decommissioned aircraft will be transported to the school via the Eastern Bypass and Thika Road, even as motorists were warned of the transportation of a long abnormal load.
