"I scored a D- in high school, but I have managed to turn that around and earn 2 degrees" Hassan Joho reveals during vetting

Cabinet Secretary nominee for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs, Hassan Joho, has acknowledged that he did not perform well in his secondary school education but is proud of how he turned things around.

Joho shared that he now holds two degrees and is on the verge of graduating with a Master's degree from one of the world's most prestigious universities.

"I had a D(minus), but I have managed to turn that around," he said.

He explained that he had a challenging upbringing and had to contribute to paying for his school fees. At one point, his headteacher allowed him to leave school early to work and raise the necessary funds.

"I was the only student who was allowed to leave school early because I had to work," he recounted.

Joho added that he drew inspiration from Prof. Ali Mazrui, who overcame many challenges to become a renowned scholar.

The former Mombasa governor holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Business Administration. He is currently pursuing a Leadership for the 21st Century degree at Harvard Kennedy School of Government Executive Education.

Joho is the first to face the National Assembly Committee on Appointments today, marking the fourth day of the proceedings. Five Cabinet Secretaries are set to face the vetting panel this Sunday.
