Health Cabinet Secretary nominee Debra Mlongo Barasa has said she aims to conduct situational analysis to understand the challenges faced in the health sector and from there come up with interventions to implement in the sector.
She emphasised the importance of processes and procedures and proposed the adoption of a digital platform to minimise human interactions and enhance efficiency.
"We need to conduct a situational analysis to understand the challenges and from there come up with interventions. I have seen the strength of having processes and procedures. We should have a digital platform that reduces human-to-human interactions," she said.
She proposed the implementation of such digital platforms on a phased approach and ultimately at a national level.
"That way we will be able to monitor services that have been given, quality, prices and even the stock house," Barasa said.
"I believe that we must embrace the digital platforms as Kenyans."
Barasa spoke during her vetting in Parliament.
Addressing the issue of transparency and accountability she said she has faith that the National Technical Working Group is competent enough to help solve challenges in the health sector.
"Having worked with the National Technical Working Group (NTWGs) in the World Health Organisation environment, I believe we can work together with even the multi-sectoral approach to ensure that we have transparency, accountability and open tenders among others," she said.
Upon successful vetting and approval by the National Assembly, Barasa will succeed former Health CS Susan Nakhumicha.
