Gunmen assassinated a teacher outside the gates of Baragoi High School.

A Baragoi High School teacher was assassinated by unknown assailants on Monday afternoon in a new attack in the dangerous region ahead of the August 9 General Election.

Mr. Cyrus Kirukura was slain when the attackers ambushed him and sprayed him with gunfire. He was on his way to the hospital to be treated.

The instructor was killed within 200 meters of the school's main entrance, according to Elijah Letakai, the school's headteacher.

Mr. Letakai claimed in an interview that the victim was on his way to the hospital in Baragoi town to receive medication after feeling ill throughout the morning hours.

Unfortunate occurrence
Mr. Letakai stated that Mr. Kirukura arrived at school on Monday morning but complained of joint pains and requested medication.

"That is a terrible occurrence. He was murdered 200 meters from our school's main entrance "Mr. Letakai stated.

Police have initiated a manhunt for the culprits who escaped following the horrible act, according to Samburu North Deputy County Commissioner Jackson Oloo, who confirmed the occurrence.

Mr. Oloo further stated that investigations into the horrible murder are underway.

"There are claims that he was shot by unknown shooters," Mr. Oloo said on Monday. "Our team is on the ground doing investigations to determine the motive."

The deceased's body is being kept at the Samburu County Referral Hospital Mortuary in Maralal town.

Baragoi Boys High School has been used as a battleground between different warring communities in the region on multiple occasions.

Since the early 2000s, the school's performance has been hampered by chronic instability in Baragoi area, which has also resulted in a significant decrease in student enrolment as parents began withdrawing their children from the school out of concern for their children's lives.

In 2015, an unknown armed gunman shot and killed the school watchman as he stepped out of the gate to go home. He was also a member of the Kenya Police Reserve.

The school, which was once a sweetheart and a dream for many, has now turned bleak, with the majority of the facilities remaining idle.
