Gachagua to Kindiki: You have the authority to arrest me if I'm on the wrong side of the law.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has emphasized that he is not exempt from the law and has invited Interior Cabinet Secretary Professor Kithure Kindiki to arrest him if he engages in any wrongdoing. He expressed these sentiments during a meeting in Nakuru with leaders and stakeholders from the Rift Valley, where the focus was on combating illegal brewing and drug abuse. Gachagua reiterated the important role of police officers in the government.

While discussing the matter, Gachagua criticized the previous administration of former President Uhuru Kenyatta for allegedly misusing police officers. He stated that he, CS Kindiki, and PS Raymond had convinced the Head of State not to dismiss national government officers.

Addressing Professor Kindiki directly, Gachagua acknowledged the latter's intention to arrest individuals and reminded him that when he assumed his position, Gachagua had warned him that he would lose friends. Gachagua emphasized the non-negotiable nature of security in the country, stating that anyone who violates the law or engages in criminal activities must be prepared for the consequences.

However, Gachagua expressed dissatisfaction with the treatment he had received from the police and officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) during President Kenyatta's tenure. He alleged that in July 2021, police officers sent by the former president had humiliated him in front of his wife and children by forcibly undressing him during a raid at his home in Nyeri.

Gachagua had been arrested earlier on charges of money laundering amounting to hundreds of millions. He criticized the DCI for abusing their positions and accused them of harassing elected officials. He argued that such harassment hindered these leaders from fulfilling their constitutional responsibilities effectively.

Gachagua's statements coincided with allegations of a plot to revive the banned Mungiki group in the Mt Kenya region, aiming to destabilize the country. Professor Kindiki revealed that the outlawed group had support from some current and former political leaders and cautioned that the government would take severe action against politicians involved in such activities
