Former Nairobi County Chief Finance Officer Jimmy Mutuku Kiamba and his wife are set to lose properties worth hundreds of millions and Ksh114 million in cash.
The wealth owned by the couple is believed to be the proceeds of corruption which the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) has been seeking to recover.
The Court of Appeal dismissed two appeals filed by Kiamba and his wife in a recovery case where EACC wanted the couple’s multimillion assets forfeited to the Government of Kenya.
During the court case, EACC argued that the assets are believed to be proceeds of corruption perpetuated by Kiamba at the Nairobi County Government.
Court of Appeal Justices Dr Laibuta, Ali-Aroni and J. Mativo ordered Kiamba and his wife to pay or forfeit to the Government of Kenya Ksh113,893,743 being the unexplained cash held in multiple bank accounts, and further forfeit to the Government or pay the current market value of seven prime properties.
Kiamba had moved to the Court of Appeal after the High Court ruled that he owned unexplained assets worth Ksh317 million.
EACC investigations established huge disparities between his assets and his known legitimate sources of income which he was unable to explain.
