Former Isiolo South Member of Parliament Abdi Tepo has been charged with five criminal counts.

Tepo has pleaded not guilty to being in possession of forged bank notes.

The prosecution told the court that he was found with 300 pieces of papers intended to resemble and pass as special paper used in making Euro currency notes.

He pleaded to other counts that of being in possession of ammunition without a certificate and being in possession of firearm without a certificate.

The accused was released on a cash bail of Ksh.100, 000 and one contact person.

The matter will be mentioned on August 12, 2024 for pretrial. 

Tepo and his wife Halima Gura Roka were arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers on July 25, 2024. 

EACC detectives were investigating fraudulent payments, amounting to Ksh.199 million, made to Beirut Pharmacy and Medical Centre in Eastleigh by the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) between 2021 and 2023, when they landed at the couple's door step.

As part of the aforesaid investigation, EACC conducted searches at the residences of Beirut directors Yussuf Maalim Haret, Mohamed Bare Abdille, Virginia Nduku Ngemu, Ubah Hussein Abdi, and Beirut Hospital Administrator Oscar Mburu Murigi.

Tepo reportedly cocked and readied his Ceska handgun when EACC detectives arrived at his residence, but later allowed them access to the premises.
