First Lady Rachel Ruto has distributed food and household items to 203 families, totalling 1,131 individuals, affected by flooding in Thika West, Kiambu County.

Mama Rachel Ruto who spoke at St. Johns Kilimambogo Teachers Training College, assured the flood victims of the Government's full support in growing food in support of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda's commitment to the nation achieving food security.

"Rafiki ni yule akufaaye katika dhiki; na ndio maana hawa watu wote hawa wamejumuika hapa, si kwa sababu wametoka kwa serikali...I want to assure all residents of Thika that you will all get your portion of food," she said.

"The floods are not only here in Thika but it is a problem across the country. We say thank you for the rain. In 2022 and 2023, we experienced severe famine and lost cattle and wild animals. We prayed and asked God for rain."

Thika Town MP Alice Nganga who was also present welcomed Rachel Ruto's visit to Thika West, pointing out that flooding had affected over 10 villages, destroying livelihoods and homesteads.

The initiative has benefited the most affected villages, including Komo, Thika River, Mbagathi, Giciiki, Wendano, and Mukunike villages.

Other leaders present were East African Legislative Assembly MP Maina Karobia, Kiambu County Commissioner Duncan Darusi, and members of the Kiambu County Assembly.
