The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has lauded Samburu County OCS, Andrew Nyabicha for his efforts in taming corruption in his line of duty.

According to EACC, the officer turned down a bribe of Ksh80,000 offered to him by relatives of Mohamed Musdaf Mahamad, a robbery and human trafficking suspect, to release him from police custody.

Nyabicha subsequently reported the matter to EACC and assisted the commission in arresting the suspects, George Guyo, Hassan Sheikh Mohamed, and Mohamed Maalim Abass.

The trio was processed at the commission's upper eastern regional office in Isiolo before being released on bail pending arraignment in court after police concluded investigations.

EACC commended OCS Nyabicha for his actions and encouraged other officers to follow suit to help tame corruption in the country.

"EACC commends the OCS for the exemplary action of refusing to compromise national security at the altar of greed and personal interest. This is what is expected of all police officers in the country, as part of the much-needed collective effort to weed out corruption from police operations," EACC said.

EACC reported that Musadaf was being held by police for robbing three Ethiopian female nationals in an incident that occurred on 23rd February 2024.

The suspect accused of stealing valuables from the ladies before abandoning them is said to have committed the crime as he was smuggling the victims into the country using his vehicle along the Isiolo-Moyale highway.

"The suspect sought to be released through the botched bribery scheme is reported to have robbed three Ethiopian female nationals on 23rd February 2024 when he was smuggling them into the country. While driving his vehicle along the Isiolo-Moyale highway with the foreigners on board, the suspect diverted to the nearest thicket where he robbed the foreigners of their mobile phones, money and other personal belongings and drove away to Nairobi.

"The victims were reportedly rescued by a good Samaritan who notified police. It is after the suspect was arrested that his associates hatched the scheme to bribe the OCS to secure his release," EACC said.
