Do Not Be Cowed: Rigathi Gachagua Tells Natembeya After Funeral Fiasco

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday, January 5, took to social media to support Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.

This comes a few days after Natembeya made bold remarks during Speaker Moses Wetangula’s mother’s funeral urging President William Ruto to end the abductions of youths currently plaguing the nation.

In his post, Gachagua lauded the Governor and urged him not to listen to naysayers and instead keep fighting for the residents of Trans Nzoia County.

“My dear brother Governor Natembeya, please do not let the court poets and masters of platitude distract you from the work you are doing of delivering to the people of Trans-Nzoia County,” he wrote.

“These Court Jesters are on the misguided assignment of providing comic relief to their master. And do not be cowed from speaking out on behalf of the people of Kenya when necessary.”

He went forth to opine that all the backlash the Governor was receiving resulted from the impact he was making by speaking the truth.

To conclude his statement, Gachagua urged Natembeya to keep up the good work and not be cowed by any “rants and tirades” being thrown at him.

“My prayer is that you will continue to do so, and to unite your people and protect their dignity and political pride,” he added.

“This unity, I assure you, will ensure that your people’s interests are always front and centre of the focus of any administration. May God continue to be with you.”

During the funeral held on Friday, January 3, Natembeya made audacious remarks to the President regarding the abductions that attracted a barrage of criticism from several other political leaders.

"We want abductions to end. The youth are using foul language on social media. That needs to change. If it cannot change, people should not be killed or abducted because of it," Natembeya stated in his speech.

Among prominent people who antagonised him was National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah who accused the former police regional commander of leading the abductions during his tenure.

He also accused the former Deputy President of orchestrating the abductions and blaming it on the President.

"Gachagua was the orchestrator of abductions so that he could blame President Ruto. Shame on you Governor Natembeya. You cannot complain about abductions when you were the key abductor of Kenyans under the last regime," Ichung'wah said.
