The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has published images of five gang members alleged to be behind the attack on a teacher and the death of a police officer in Mahero area in Siaya County during the KCSE examinations.
According to the DCI statement, the five men are linked to the incident last month, where officials ambushed were part of the team invigilating and supervising the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.
They include; Edward Wanyama Mukanga alias Ramadhan Mukanga or Abu Naiyah, Edwin Omondi popularly known as Rashid, Simon Ochieng Ouma alias Hassan alias Obas, Hastings Omondi Odipo alias Martin or Umar and Salim Jackoyo.
DCI says all the five suspects hail from Siaya but some are linked to crimes extending to Busia, Kisumu and Nairobi counties.
Ramadhan Mukanga who was once a fisherman at Ogangara beach is said to be the mastermind behind the terror group based in Hawinga area who also reportedly planned the November attack.
The second member Rashid was born in Hawinga area within Uranga in Siaya County according to the DCI, and is linked to a series of attacks in Siaya, Kisumu and Busia counties.
Obas on the other hand comes from Uranga and is also linked to crimes extending to Baba Dogo area in Nairobi County.
The DCI notes that both Umar and Jackoyo hail from Kadenge. Umar was once a fisherman at Nina Beach near Lake Victoria but is now part of a gang in Hainga area.
Jackoyo however operates in a gang which terrorizes business people of Siaya and Busia counties.
Detectives are therefore appealing to the public to bring forth any information that may lead to the arrest of the five criminals.
“They are wanted by the Kenyan security services for various capital offences. They may be armed and hence dangerous,” DCI warned.
In the November 20 incident, the officer was in the company of his colleague and the centre manager when they were ambushed by unknown assailants with crude weapons.
While the centre manager fled to safety, the thugs killed one of the officers and injured the other. The thugs escaped with the officers’ firearms.
