CS Wycliffe Oparanya pleads with Kenyans to pay Hustler Fund loans

Wycliffe Oparanya, the Co-Operatives And Micro, Small And Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development Cabinet Secretary has urged Kenyans to repay loans borrowed through Hustler Fund, ensuring future credit access for others.

Speaking in Vihiga during the launch of a local foundation, Oparanya emphasized the importance of financial responsibility among small business operators.

“Take loans, do your business and repay. Because there is another who will use that money to do their business too. You can not fail to repay loans,” he said.

The Cabinet Secretary also encouraged entrepreneurs to embrace the government’s financial initiatives as a pathway to economic growth. 

A number of Kenyans gave been blamed for defaulting their loans that has difficult to sustain majority of government funds borrowing agencies like Uwezo fund and Hustler Fund.

In October, the government expressed intentions to have a legal framework to handle the Hustler Fund defaulters.

The proposed enforcement measure would see the recovery of defaulted Hustler Fund loans from Mpesa accounts and mobile airtime.

This was aimed at securing Ksh.7 billion from an estimated 13 million Kenyans who had defaulted payments as of October 2024.
