The Health and Finance committees of the Nandi county government have held a meeting with stakeholders in the health sector to find strategies to reduce cases of malnutrition and stunted growth among children.
Speaking in Kapsabet on Friday, the stakeholders called for adequate allocation in the budget to fight malnutrition after a report launched last week showed that Nandi County is among the counties facing high cases of malnutrition.
Malnutrition occurs when the body doesn't get enough nutrients.
Causes include a poor diet, digestive conditions or other diseases.
Symptoms are fatigue, dizziness and weight loss. Untreated malnutrition can cause physical or mental disability.
Paul Birech, the head of the Finance committee, said, "We have held discussions with the Health committee and have agreed they will be held accountable for previous spending before more funding can be allocated towards the project."
Ezra Chirchir, the head of the Health committee, said, "We have made many issues when it comes to malnutrition. There's a need to focus on ensuring people get a balanced diet. With proper funding, things can get better."
