Businesswoman Nancy Kigunzu, widely known as 'Mathe wa Ngara' in local circles, has been freed on a Ksh.1 million cash bail in the ongoing drug trafficking case leveled against her.
While issuing the verdict on Wednesday, the Nairobi Court ordered Kigunzu to surrender her passport to the court.
'Mathe Wa Ngara' has been detained since her arrest on August 21 in connection with a drug bust in Nairobi's Ngara area, where large quantities of bhang and Ksh.13.4 million in cash were seized.
Two weeks after her arrest, Kigunzu was denied bail on grounds that she is a flight risk due to her alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
She had filed the bond application due to the fact that she allegedly had an underlying medical condition that required constant monitoring and medication, further asserting that if she was denied bail, her condition would worsen.
Magistrate Njeri Thuku however ruled that granting her bond was not in the best interests of justice.
