The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party MPs have rallied to have the Azimio coalition shoot down the Finance Bill, 2024 terming it punitive and unbearable.
The MPs who accompanied ODM leader Raila Odinga to Migori for the installation of the Seme Council of Elders said they are ready to reject the Bill and put on notice any opposition lawmaker who will give a nod to the proposed law.
“Serikali ya juu wanaleta Bill ili tupitishe...wabunge wasidanganye wananchi..sisi tumesema hatupitishi,” said Suna East MP Junet Mohamed.
The political leaders accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of piling more taxes on Kenyans despite the hard economic times.
“Sio wananchi ndio wako na shida wala Ruto, ni nyinyi wabunge…lazima mkatae hii sheria ikikuja bungeni,” said Kisii Governor Simba Arati.
However, Odinga kept off the Finance Bill politics and instead rooted for unity in the ODM party amid internal squabbles over who would take over in case he succeeds in his quest for the Africa Union Commission Chairmanship in Addis Ababa Ethiopia.
“What we want is a strong ODM…we must unite as leaders; ODM must be there even after Raila,” he said.
The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition constituent parties have of late drifted apart with the principals appearing distracted from forging a united front against the Kenya Kwanza Regime, as the parties seemingly chart their own paths.
