Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Deputy CEO Abdi Ahmed Mohamud has been nominated as the Commision's new CEO.

According to a notice issued by the EACC Chairperson David Oginde on Friday, Mohamud was selected among 14 candidates who had been shortlisted for the top job to succeed outgoing CEO Twalib Mbarak whose six-year tenure came to an end early this month.

Oginde noted that Mohamud was picked after a thorough interview process, in which more than 172 candidates had applied for the job. 

"By the close of the application deadline on Monday, 7th October 2024, the Commission received 172 applications out of which fourteen (14) candidates were shortlisted, and the full list was published in the print media on 11th October 2024. The interviews for the shortlisted candidates were conducted from 19th to 21st November 2024," he stated.

"The Commission wishes to inform the public that following a competitive recruitment process, Mr. Abdi Ahmed Mohamud, has been considered as the nominee for the position of Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

Commissioner Mohamud had previously served as the Director of Investigation before rising through the ranks to become the deputy CEO.

His details will now be forwarded to the National Assembly for vetting and consideration per the law.

Interviews for Mbarak’s replacement kicked off on Tuesday this week where the 172 applicants for the role were interviewed and 14 candidates shortlisted.

Among those shortlisted were; Stephen Ngowa, Doreen Muthaura, Jackson Mue, Joseph Onyango, Paul Maina, Victor Okongo, Peter Lomulen and Obadiah Keitany.

Others were John Ole Moyaki, David Too, Abdi Mohamud, Justa Mwangi, Mohamed Mmaka and Waweru Karanja.

Ngowa, Muthaura, Mue, Onyango and Maina were interviewed on Tuesday morning by EACC commissioners led by the agency’s chairman, David Oginde, at the Public Service Commission House in Nairobi.

Okongo, Lomuleni, Keitany, Moyaki and Too were interviewed on Wednesday, while Mohamud, Mwangi, Mmaka and Karanja’s interviews were on Thursday.

EACC had previously invited members of the public to submit any information of interest relating to the suitability of the shortlisted candidates by November 11.
