A two-year-old child died on Thursday after he was attacked by a swarm of bees at their home in Chepkosa village, Bomet county.
Five other family members were left nursing serious sting wounds following the attack.
Bomet county disaster management officer Stanley Mutai confirmed the incident.
“The child was playing outside their house when the bees suddenly started hovering around the compound – and began to sting everyone who was outside,” said Mutai.
The child was rushed to Sigor sub-county hospital in an attempt to save his life – but was unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival.
Other family members were treated and discharged.
According to Mutai, the bees hovered around the compound for hours – forcing neighbours to lock themselves inside their houses for fear of being attacked.
The body was taken to Longisa Referral hospital morgue.
