A quick-thinking eight-year-old boy became a hero after saving his mother’s life by calmly calling emergency services when she suffered a severe allergic reaction.

Ryan Reid sprang into action when he realized his mother, Alicia, 27, was experiencing anaphylaxis, leaving her unable to breathe. Despite being a normally shy and anxious child, Ryan remained composed during the 999 call, providing essential information to the operator.

The incident occurred in August 2023 after Alicia was incorrectly prescribed an antibiotic for stomach pains. The medication triggered a severe allergic reaction, causing her airway to constrict.

Alicia praised her son’s bravery, saying, “He saved my life. I could feel myself losing consciousness, and if the paramedics hadn’t arrived when they did, I would have passed out.”

The experience has left a lasting impact on the family, with Alicia emphasizing the importance of teaching children how to handle emergencies. She said, “I’ve taught Ryan about calling 999 since he was four, and it turned out to be a lifesaver.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service commended Ryan for his actions, highlighting the importance of child emergency training.
