Six people died on Saturday night while 26 others were injured after a school bus and a matatu collided in the Olonini area on the Narok-Bomet highway, Narok County.
Police said the bus from Mesabisabi Secondary School was heading from Narok to Bomet while the Narok Line Services matatu was driving in the opposite direction.
It was raining heavily but the bus driver was reportedly overtaking carelessly, leading to the collision with the oncoming matatu.
Three passengers in the matatu died on the spot while three others died at the Ololunha Hospital.
Police added that 16 passengers were left with serious injuries while 10 others were lightly injured.
All were taken to the Narok County Referral Hospital while the bodies of the deceased were also taken to the same hospital’s mortuary.
The driver of the bus is among those who survived.
