24 families have been left homeless after a night fire burnt their houses down to ashes.
According to a report by the Kenya Red Cross, the fire broke out at 1 A.M at the Jua Kali Green corner, Embakasi area.
Reacting to the unfortunate incident the Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino called on Nairobi firefighters to act swiftly in such incidents to prevent severe damage.
The Member of Parliament was complaining that Nairobi firefighters took too long to respond causing more than 20 houses to burn down.
"Fire outbreak at Juakali Embakasi East. Sadness in Embakasi. Nairobi County fire brigade should move with speed and put out the fire." the MP said.
No casualties had been reported by the time of this publication. The cause of the fire has also not yet been revealed.
This comes months after 6 people lost their lives in a gas explosion that happened in Embakasi back in February.
A truck loaded with gas exploded and set off a massive fireball that burned homes and warehouses in Embakasi, killing at least three people and injuring 280 others.
Following the costly incident, officials from the National Environment Management Agency (NEMA) were accused of wrongly giving a license for the LPG filling and storage plant in such a densely populated area.
An LPG filling station is classified as a project requiring the submission of an Environmental Impact Assessment Study report under Schedule 2 of the Environmental Management and Co-Ordination Act.
The applicant is required to submit the report after which National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) will consider the application and if found compliant issue the applicant with a licence.
Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson ordered the closure of all gas businesses operating in residential areas across the city.
While cases of fire continue to increase, questions linger on how much the country has invested in informing its people about fire response and preparedness.
