An Easy Coach bus ferrying students from Chavakali Boys High School to Nairobi has been involved in an accident along the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway.
The Monday, April 1, evening accident happened next to the Coptic Church roundabout near Mamboleo in Kisumu.
Three students sustained severe injuries and are currently admitted at Avenue Hospital, Kisumu while 30 others are undergoing treatment at the Jaramogi Oginga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu.
A student at the scene said they had closed school and had boarded the bus from school heading to Nairobi.
Videos from the scene show a crowd milling around as they try to pull the students from the overturned bus. Residents at the scene have expressed fears that some of the students may be dead but are hoping for the best outcome as they continue with rescue operations.
There is also growing fear that the vehicle might catch fire as it continues to leak fuel while the locals try to retrieve the learners.
