Detectives from Githurai have arrested a police officer from Kimbo Police Station on suspicion of murder after a 24-year-old man died from gunshot wounds early Sunday morning.

According to a report filed at Githurai Kimbo Police Station, the victim, John Mutembei, died while being treated at Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital after being shot at the Goteana Bar in Githurai Kimbo.

The shooter is believed to be a police officer, though the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.

Following reports of the shooting, officers from Githurai Kimbo Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) responded to the scene.

At the hospital, they confirmed Mutembei’s death from gunshot injuries. 

His body has been transferred to the mortuary at the same facility awaiting an autopsy. 

Preliminary investigations reveal that Mutembei was taken to the hospital by Good Samaritans after the shooting. 

Authorities are now investigating the exact sequence of events that resulted in the fatal shooting at Goteana Bar.

A firearm believed to have been used in the incident has been confiscated and will be used as evidence in the investigation. 

The police officer suspect is currently in custody and is expected to appear in court on Monday to face formal charges.
