Zipporah Kinya, the Member of the County Assembly (MCA) who tabled the third motion seeking to remove Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza from office has been summoned by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
In a letter shared with the Meru County Assembly and newsrooms, the MCA was directed to appear at the party's headquarters on Monday without failure.
UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala directed Zipporah Kinya who is also the Deputy Majority Leader to present herself for a preliminary discussion on the issue.
"To discuss this matter further and align on the way forward you are requested to report to the party headquarters on Monday, 21st July of 2024, for a preliminary discussion on the issue," read part of the letter.
Additionally, the UDA party has also scheduled a meeting with the politician to resolve the stalemate. The MCA has on the same, asked to appear at the second meeting to ascertain the party's position on the matter.
"Your presence and insights at these meetings will be crucial for our collective strategy and decision-making processes."
The letter signed by the UDA Secretary General comes even as the party leadership asked Ziporah to withdraw the motion "in the interest of the party's cohesion and stability."
The move, according to Malala will demonstrate unity and give the party room to initiate strategic foresight to avert any future conflict that might result in straining political relationships further.
Kinya, is hinging her impeachment motion on three grounds.
These include; alleged gross violation of the Constitution, alleged gross violation of various national and county laws, and alleged abuse of office.
“Public petitions have been presented to the county assembly including petition No. 5 of 2023 brought by 1,611 members of the public and statements have been sought by the members of the county assembly on the various gross violations and instances of abuse of office by the governor and recommendations made by the county assembly on the various gross violations,” the MCA stated while tabling the motion.
Kinya further noted that only an impeachment motion would save the County Assembly from the political turmoil the devolved unit has experienced for the past two years since the general election.
The MCA stated that the governor’s continued stay in office has hampered the efficient delivery of services to the people of Meru County.
