UDA announce plan to replace Rigathi Gachagua with Kindiki’s Kithure as the deputy party leader

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has announced that it is set to change its top party leadership once the court gives its verdict on Rigathi Gachagua's impeachment.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar said the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) is awaiting the court's decision to suspend Gachagua and appoint Kithure Kindiki who has been nominated to be the next Deputy President.

"Once the process in the courts has been concluded, we will sit down as a party and we make sure that we replace the Deputy Party leader with the new one," he said.

Omar added that Gachagua should forfeit his court battles and accept his fate, stating that he should opt to settle his political scores off the court.

"If he wants to go and regroup himself and re-organise politically we wish him all the best but let us move on," he noted.

Kindiki was nominated by President William Ruto on October 18 after the Senate impeached Gachagua.

Gachagua's legal team has argued that the ouster process was marred with ill intent particularly after the Senate made its decision while the embattled second-in-command was hospitalised.

The impeached Gachagua still maintains that he is the rightful Deputy President and he will fight tooth and nail for his stay in office.
