Uasin Gishu deputy governor John Barorot resigns

Uasin Gishu deputy governor John Barorot resigns

Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor John Barorot, has officially resigned from his position, effective immediately.

The announcement was made during a meeting with senior county staff at the Eka Hotel in Eldoret, attended by Governor Jonathan Bii.

In a press conference on Monday, Governor Bii confirmed that he resigned after securing a new role as Chief Executive Officer at an international ICT firm that will begin on September 1, 2024.

During his speech, Barorot clarified that he had no differences with the governor, as speculated by the public but sought to exploit other opportunities.

He noted there he is looking at such a transformation since he has been in the ICT world in the last 30 years.

"It's in the private sector but it has a catalytic role, I go with my head high because of my passion. I have worked well with the governor and other employees," he said.

In his remarks, Governor Bii praised Barorot for his service to the county and wished him success in his new role. He stated that his new position is a blessing to Uasin Gishu.

His resignation comes just a week after he dismissed rumours that he had quit his office.

Speculation about his departure intensified when Barorot was notably absent from President William Ruto's event last Thursday, where Eldoret was conferred with city status.

The resignation comes as the county government seeks to navigate its new responsibilities under the new city status of Eldoret.
