Toyota Vitz and Mazda Demio Prices to Go up in KRA’s Tax Changes

Car buyers and importers are bracing for a price hike after the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) announced an updated Current Retail Selling Price (CRSP) schedule, set to take effect on 1st July 2025.

The new rates will see increased customs taxes for used vehicles, particularly economy models, by between Sh300,000 and Sh500,000.

The newly released CRSP list covers a wide range of vehicle models, including changes in the small car segment, typically preferred for its affordability and low fuel consumption.

These price updates suggest that similar small cars, such as the Toyota Vitz and Mazda Demio, currently at about Sh1.2 million, will cost approximately Sh1.6 million with an updated CRSP.

In the new directive, a 5-seater Mazda Demio will now fetch Sh3.1 million for the cheapest variant, while the Toyota Vitz will now sell at Sh3.4 million for the hybrid variant.

Among the hatchback models, the new CRSP lists the Audi A1 Sportback 25 TFSI (1.5L) at Sh6.6 million, while the Audi A1 Sportback 25 TFSI S Line (1.0L) comes in at Sh9 million.

“This follows an extensive stakeholder engagement with stakeholders to ensure that the new CRSP factors in their feedback,” said KRA in its public notice, defending the change as necessary to reflect global market realities and maintain fairness in tax administration.

KRA has advised importers and members of the public to familiarize themselves with the revised list.
