Strathmore University Defeat Lakers to Stay Perfect in Premier League Pool

Strathmore University's Scorpions extended their unbeaten run in the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Premier League with a 3-0 victory over Amira Sailors at Dashmesh Stadium on Sunday morning, sealing their second win.

Rita Atengeno gave the students the lead in the 15th minute with a field goal before Becca Masinde doubled the advantage in the 50th minute from another well-worked move. Susan Okoth wrapped up the win a minute later with a penalty corner strike.

Head coach Meshack Senge praised the players for their composure and efficiency, saying, “The girls executed the game plan exactly as we had prepared."

"We created chances early, and I am happy that we managed to convert and control the game. The discipline they showed in keeping the structure was impressive, and that is what gave us the three points.”

The women will now prepare for upcoming duels against Kenyatta University Titans University of Nairobi's UON ladies. Senge, already looking ahead to their clash with fellow students, stressed the need for sharper finishing and quicker transitions.

He said: “We have to move the ball faster, stretch the field, and be ruthless in the circle. Titans are young and energetic, so we must control the pace and not allow them to dictate. If we can convert early chances and stay compact defensively, I am confident we will keep our run going.”

However, on the men’s front, Strathmore Gladiators fell to Sikh Union 4-3 on Saturday in a defeat that Senge admitted highlighted areas for improvement.

“The men gave their best, but we lacked sharpness in the final third. We need to be more clinical and cut out errors at the back. We will use this setback to refine our play and come back stronger in the next matches,” he said.

League action will resume next weekend with Butali Warriors facing Sikh Union in a key clash at the top of the men’s table, while the Gladiators regroup for their next assignment against USIU's Black Tigres.
