Siaya governor says Raila Odinga's replacement should be from the Azimio coalition

Siaya Governor James Orengo now says that Azimio la Umoja coalition’s leadership after ODM leader Raila Odinga’s exit will be determined by affiliate parties’ strength.

He says that should Odinga exit the Azimio leadership after winning the African Union Commission Chairmanship, the successive leadership will be determined by the strength of parties within the outfit.

Orengo, who spoke in West Ugenya on Saturday, said that the next Azimio party leader is subject to discussion, but reiterated that it must reflect the strength of the party within the outfit.

He stated that it must always be remembered that ODM party is by far still the largest party within the Azimio coalition.

While stating that ODM party has the largest stake in Azimio, the Siaya governor said the matter is subject to discussions.

Orengo claimed that the positions in the National Assembly that were occupied by Ugunja lawmaker Opiyo Wandayi and John Mbadi were seats designated for ODM and as such it is prudent for them to be retained within the outfit.

He stated that nothing has changed even in the national assembly leadership and that is why the positions which were held by the individuals who were nominated the cabinet have been replaced by those in the ODM party.
