Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has unveiled The Equitable Party (TEP) as the political vehicle for his 2027 presidential bid.
Speaking during the event on Sunday, October 4, TEP party leader Gilbert Marava said Sifuna will be the party's leader and will run for the presidency on TEP's ticket.
Marava said Sifuna's entry would see him take over the leadership of the party as it prepares for the 2027 General Election.
"Sifuna is going to run for president, and he will be the next leader of The Equittable Party (TEP)," he said.
Sifuna's unveiling of The Equitable Party attracted several prominent political figures from across the country.
Among those present were Siaya Governor James Orengo, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Senators Godfrey Osotsi (Vihiga), Richard Onyonka (Kisii), and Boni Khalwale (Kakamega).
MPs Babu Owino (Embakasi East), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Patrick Makau (Mavoko), Antony Kibagendi (Kitutu Chache South), Jack Wamboka (Bumula) and Majimbo Kalasinga (Kabuchai).
Notably, the Equitable Party is not a newly registered political outfit.
Records from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) show that the party was officially registered on March 25, 2022.
TEP's vision is to build an equitable, prosperous and modern nation where citizens enjoy social, economic and democratic rights.
The party's mission is to promote economic and social justice through equitable distribution of national resources while empowering individuals and communities to participate in development and nation-building.
Elsewhere, a section of Wiper Party leadership seems disturbed by the opposition's strategy for the 2027 presidential vote, raising the alarm over what it suggests as a casual approach to identifying a single presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 pesidential election.

Ndegwa Njiru, the spokesperson for the Kalonzo Musyoka-led party, suggested the naming of the candidate as one of the most consequential decisions ahead of the vote.
In a statement, he criticised the manner in which opposition principals appear to be handling the flag bearer question, warning that such a weighty matter demands a deliberate and formal process.
"A critical decision on the selection of the United Alternative Government's flag bearer cannot be taken at a funeral," Njiru said.
His remarks appeared directed at a gathering of opposition principals at the funeral of Martha Karua's father in Kirinyaga, where the tone of discussions reportedly veered into presidential succession territory.
Njiru suggested that announcements of such magnitude require a proper political forum rather than a social occasion.
