Rigathi Gachagua: GEMA has the numbers, Raila’s support not a dealbreaker

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stated that the Gikuyu, Embu, Meru, and Akamba (GEMA) communities will be the driving force behind Kenya's next government, with or without the support of veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking at a church service in Machakos on Sunday, Gachagua expressed confidence in GEMA's ability to dominate the country's political landscape in the near future.
“GEMA ndiyo dawa ya Kenya. GEMA itaunda the next government,” Gachagua stated.
He assured his supporters that their political strategy was sound and that they had enough numbers to win decisively. “We have looked at the numbers, and they are good with or without him [Raila].”

Gachagua also criticized President William Ruto, claiming that his political survival is currently dependent on Raila Odinga's influence.
“Life support machine ya Ruto ni Raila saa hii. Akizima, amekwisha,” he claimed, predicting that Ruto would struggle to retain his position in the 2027 general elections. “Ruto atakuwa number 3 ama number 4 2027,” he added.
In a series of bold statements, Gachagua claimed that GEMA's unity would guarantee their political dominance for the next century.
“If we unite as GEMA, we shall be in power for the next 100 years,” he declared.
His remarks come just days after he hinted at being willing to collaborate with Raila Odinga to strengthen efforts to depose President William Ruto in the 2027 general election.
Raila and Ruto have recently forged a new pact that includes a broad-based government featuring several of Raila’s key allies.
Following his impeachment from Ruto's government in October, Gachagua has been reaching out to political leaders, including those in opposition, ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a Wednesday interview with Citizen Digital's sister outlet Musyi FM and other Kamba radio stations, Gachagua was asked if he was willing to include Odinga in his new alliance.

“I do not understand Raila’s intentions; it is his choice whether he wants to be with Ruto and water down his political legacy or join the side of liberating this country,” Gachagua replied.
“Ruto is not getting a vote from the 9 million Kenyan Gen Zs, so whether Raila is with him or not, we will defeat him. Kenyans have already decided Ruto must go home and want a new government that serves them.”
Gachagua has met with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), and the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K)’s Eugene Wamalwa, among others, in his bid to form a strong opposition coalition ahead of the next general elections.
