Recep Erdogan Wins Turkey Presidential Election

Recep Tayyip Erdogan has won the Turkey Presidential Election to retain his seat for the third consequtive time since 2014.
Erdogan beat his opponent Kemal Kilicdaroglu in the second round of elections to retain his seat after he failed to secure the 50% threshold required to win in the first round held on 14 May.
According to the state agency Anadolu, Erdogan won 52.1% of the votes while Kemal garnered 47.93%.
In a celebratory speech made in Istanbul, Erdogan noted that his success is a celebration of democracy in Turkey. "The only winner is Turkey!" he proclaimed.
Erdogan thanked the citizens for entrusting him with managing the country for another 5 years.
Erdogan first got into politics in 1994 after clinching the mayor of Istanbul seat. He then led Turkey as Prime Minister from 2003-2014.
The former mayor of Turkey revealed that Turkey's citizens have given him a new mandate to lead and transform the country.
He faces a huge task to revive the ailing economy and keep his promises to the Turkish people especially after the February earthquake that rendered millions of people homeless.
