President Ruto arrives in Uganda ahead of 2 key meetings

President William Ruto has arrived in Uganda ahead of two crucial international meetings.

The plane carrying the Kenyan Head of State touched down at Entebbe International Airport in Kampala on Thursday afternoon.

He was received by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Okello Oryem among other high-ranking Ugandan officials.

President Ruto is accompanied by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Defense CS Aden Duale, National Security Advisor Monica Juma, and State House Deputy Chief of Staff Josphat Nanok, among others.

This is Ruto's first foreign trip in 2024.

The President is scheduled to attend the 42nd Extraordinary Session of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) on regional cooperation and development.

On Friday, President Ruto will attend the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement.

The summit, whose theme is 'Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence, will address crucial global issues, including multilateralism, international peace and post-COVID-19 recovery strategies.

Earlier, State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed said President Ruto will contribute to discussions on key priorities such as reform of the United Nations, peace and security, sustainable development goals, climate change and the reform of the international financial system.

The President will also hold bilateral meetings with various Heads of State and leaders aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties and underscoring Kenya's role in regional and global affairs.
