The spouse of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Pastor Dorcas Gachagua, has disclosed that her husband now prefers the nickname "Riggy G."
During the 'Sikika Youth Fest' at Mount Kenya University, Pastor Gachagua, who is a mother of two, shared that when she wants something from her husband, she affectionately calls him 'Riggy G'.
The moniker originated from Ivy Chelimo, a law student at Catholic University, who mentioned it while expressing her thoughts on the deputy presidential debate prior to the General Election in July 2022.
The nickname quickly gained popularity and was eventually embraced by Mr. Gachagua. In October 2022, shortly after his inauguration, the Deputy President met Ms. Chelimo and offered her a government position as a gesture of appreciation.
During the World Food Day event in Kajiado County on October 17, 2022, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua expressed his support for the creative economy and commended Ivy Chelimo for initiating the 'Riggy G' brand.
Ms. Chelimo, who accompanied the Deputy President to the celebrations, expressed her gratitude for the job offer and praised Mr. Gachagua for encouraging youth leadership.
Initially, the Deputy President admitted to being surprised by the nickname, but later grew fond of it. He regarded 'Riggy G' as a melodious name and appreciated the creativity of young people. Subsequently, Mr. Gachagua instructed his two sons to locate and bring Ms. Chelimo to him for a reward.
Ms. Chelimo herself did not anticipate the extent to which the name 'Riggy G' would be embraced and used by the Deputy President.
