Meta has announced a new enterprise-focused platform aimed at helping businesses and developers use artificial intelligence to expand their operations, reach customers and transform how they work.

In a statement on Monday, September 28, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the Meta Enterprise Platform marks a new major pillar of the company’s business as Meta seeks to extend its AI capabilities beyond its existing consumer and advertising products.

Zuckerberg said the company expects advances in AI to create new opportunities for businesses and individuals, building on Meta’s existing reach among consumers and companies worldwide.

"We believe superintelligence will create significant new opportunities for all people and businesses. Meta already serves billions of people at scale and helps hundreds of millions of businesses reach customers.

"Today we are starting the next major pillar of our business, Meta Enterprise Platform, to help businesses use AI to grow and transform in new ways as well," the statement read.

Zuckerberg explained that the platform will draw on Meta’s AI models, agent technology and computing infrastructure, as well as the company’s experience working with businesses, according to Zuckerberg.

"Meta Enterprise Platform will use our strengths that few other companies have: advanced models, leading agents, large-scale infrastructure, and years of working closely with many businesses.

"Initially, we will focus on bringing our full technology stack, including the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, Muse Code, and more to businesses and developers to help them grow," the statement added.

 Zuckerberg also announced the appointment of Chirantan "CJ" Desai as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer. Desai will report directly to Zuckerberg and will oversee the company’s enterprise platform efforts.

He described Desai as an experienced enterprise technology executive with experience spanning artificial intelligence, infrastructure, business applications, security and full-stack software development.

"To lead this effort, I'm excited that Chirantan "CJ" Desai will join Meta as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer, reporting directly to me.

"CJ is an experienced enterprise leader with a track record of building full-stack software and delivering results in AI, infrastructure, business applications, and security," the statement further read.

Desai joins Meta from MongoDB, where he served as CEO and President. 

His previous roles included leading product and engineering at Cloudflare and spending nearly eight years at ServiceNow, including serving as President and COO.

Zuckerberg said Meta expects Desai’s industry relationships to support the company as it develops partnerships around its enterprise offering.

"He has an extensive industry network that we look forward to partnering with. He joins us from MongoDB, where he was CEO and President. Before that he led product and engineering at Cloudflare and spent nearly eight years at ServiceNow, including as President and COO," the statement concluded.

This comes months after Nairobi-based outsourcing firm Sama announced a redundancy process that will affect more than 1,000 workers.

In a statement on Thursday, April 16, the company said it recently received a communication from Meta, notifying it of the termination of their contract. 

Following the notice, Sama said it held discussions with the client in an effort to protect jobs at the Nairobi office and across the wider business, but those efforts were unsuccessful.

As a result, the company issued a formal notice of intended redundancy to employees at its Nairobi office on April 16.

The company said the exercise will affect 1,108 employees, many of whom were assigned to the terminated workstream.

"As is standard in our industry, client programs evolve, and we work closely with our partners to manage these transitions responsibly. Our immediate priority is supporting our employees through this change and ensuring continuity across our broader operations," Sama Country Lead and Vice President for Global Delivery, Annepeace Alwala, said.

Alwala added that Sama were working to support affected employees with care and respect.
