Kibiwott Kandie of Kenya wins the Valencia Half Marathon.

Kibiwott Kandie of Kenya won the Valencia Half Marathon on Sunday in Spain.

Kandie finished in 58:11, ahead of Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha in 58:32 and another Kenyan, Daniel Mateiko, in 58:40.

Kandie surged ahead at the 10km mark, but the others couldn't keep up, and one by one they dropped out, leaving Kandie to comfortably cruise to victory.

Kibiwott fell one second short of his previous personal best of 57:32, which he set in 2020 before Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo lowered it by one second at the 2021 Lisbon Half Marathon.

Kennedy Kimutai (59:04), Sebastian Kimaru (59:23), Ronald Kiprotich (1:00:10), Isaac Kipkemboi (1:00:12), Edward Kimutai (1:00:14), and Weldon Kirui (1:00:28) were fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth.

Kenyans missed the podium in the women's race, with Kapsabet-based Margaret Chelimo finishing fourth in 1:06:50.

Konstanze Klosterhalfen of Germany won the race in 1:05:41, with Ethiopians Tsigie Gebreselama (1:05:46) and Hawi Feysa Gejia (1:06:00) finishing second and third.

Purity Komen (1:07:29), Vicoty Chepngeno (1:07:55), and Dorcas Kimeli (1:08:17) finished sixth, seventh, ninth, and tenth, respectively.
